Meanwhile, in Bangkok, Thailand, 1,200 kilometers away from the earthquake’s epicenter, tragedy also struck. Residents watched in horror as a high-rise office building under construction suddenly collapsed with approximately 100 construction workers inside.A recent study presents a concerning connection between global warming and tectonic activity. Experts warn that global warming is likely to lead to more frequent and stronger earthquakes in the future. Other consequences of a hotter planet include more frequent and intense fires. In February, Ofunato, a town in northern Japan, was devastated by the country’s worst wildfire in decades. The blaze forced nearly 4,600 people to flee their homes. In March, Korea suffered its largest single forest fire on record.
