Along with your vegan diet and meditation, I hear you’ve been exercising more too! Well done. Sometimes though, we can get a little strain or tension in our muscles, so I've got a health tip for you today. Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder that could develop after an acute muscle injury or repeated muscle stress, causing sensitive areas in your muscles to form, called trigger points. Poor posture, repetitive motions, stress and anxiety can increase the likelihood of developing a trigger point. According to experts from the Cleveland Clinic in the USA, the following methods may be helpful, if you experience pain in a trigger point in your muscle. You can try using ice packs to decrease inflammation and then heat packs to help relax the area. Some specific exercises may be beneficial, like gentle movements to help you deal with the pain, weight-bearing activities to assist in strengthening your muscles, as well as stretching and aerobic exercises in order to loosen your muscles and bring more oxygen into your tissues. Incorporating relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation and breathing practices may also help reduce stress and relax your muscles. Another aspect is the benefit you’ll receive from changing your diet and avoiding foods that cause inflammation – this means more colorful plant foods for you! Lastly, massaging and soaking the affected area in warm water with a spoon of Epsom Salts may bring relief for some, because magnesium aids nerve and muscle function. Your road to recovery could be much shorter if you take all of the above into account, and seek a professional physical therapist to help you out.
