Qatar Charity provides “Warm Hearts” winter relief in northern Syria.
Funded by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity will supply much-needed winter items to seven camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in northern Syria. With the first delivery, the plan is to replace damaged tents for an estimated 33,000 IDPs. In addition, 6,600 bags of warm clothes and 6,600 non-food-item kits including carpets, mattresses, blankets, ground insulation and plastic sheeting for tents will be distributed. A second shipment is expected to deliver 600 more tents and 1,600 non-food-item kits to help the residents in need survive the harsh winter. Mr. Nouf al-Kaabi, director of QFFD’s Programs and Projects Department, indicated that supporting the Syrian people is a top priority for QFFD. Spain recently closed its airspace for 40 minutes around Barcelona and Ibiza airports, as well as other areas in the north of the country, because of a small risk that debris from a part of a rocket may fall in those locations. The nation decided to take this precautionary measure after China sent its Long March 5B rocket to carry a module to the Tiangong space station and a part of the rocket made re-entry into the atmosphere in an uncontrolled way. The European Union Space Surveillance and Tracking organization monitored the situation and reported the expected landing place of the remnants on their website. The debris eventually fell into the Pacific Ocean 1,000 km from Acapulco, Mexico. According to the UK Office for National Statistics, prices for common pantry goods like pasta, tea, chips, and cooking oil have hiked dramatically, with vegetable oil now costing 65% more and overall average food prices being 17% higher. Supermarket chains themselves are caught in a difficult place between climbing labor costs and inflation. Sainsbury’s, for example, is expecting a dip in profits as they absorb the impact of rising food prices. After witnessing many people having accidents due to driving into potholes, Mr. Nguyễn Hồng Dân decided to repair them as much as he could. Although the kind gentleman has one paralyzed leg since childhood, and his family is in a difficult financial situation, he still drives a homemade tricycle around the local roads every day to patch up potholes for traffic safety. He said, “If I see a pothole and I have enough money, I would buy sand and cement right away and fix it. Chilean organization installs intelligent buoy to protect whale-people.
The Blue Boat Initiative from Chile, which is a joint project between the Ministry of the Environment and MERI Foundation, has installed an intelligent buoy in the Gulf of Corcovado, that can detect people from the whale kingdom, and alert nearby ships of their presence. Once the vessels are aware of the whale-people, they can reduce their noise, and also be more careful to avoid collisions with them. The device monitors the ocean’s oxygen levels, temperature and more as well. The initiative hopes to cover the gulf with six or more buoys, and after that, the entire migratory route from Antarctica to the equator. Chile is a Shining World Leadership Award for Protection recipient.
