In our previous episode, we learned that the Plant Based Treaty is a grassroots organization dedicated to halting climate change, reducing environmental degradation, and improving human health through a global shift to the vegan lifestyle. The Treaty, whose motto is “Eat Plants. Plant Trees.” has been rapidly gaining international support and has now been endorsed by many cities around the world.

In 2023, the city of Norwich, England, acknowledged the role that food systems play in climate change and supported the Plant Based Treaty.

In early 2024, Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, became the first city on the island of Ireland to endorse the Plant Based Treaty.

Concerned about their citizens’ future, four Spanish cities recently endorsed the Plant Based Treaty. In its endorsement, El Masnou pledged that at least 50% of the food offered at its public events would be vegan.

In October 2024, Tavira became the first city in Portugal to endorse the Plant Based Treaty.

Named the “2022 European green capital,” Grenoble again demonstrated leadership by becoming the first city in France to endorse the Treaty.

Our Most Courageous Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) often reminds us that raising animal-people livestock is the main cause of climate change, environmental damage, water shortages, and many other issues on Earth. “The global livestock industry is now contributing as much to global warming as the energy sector, or even more. Only you can stop it. They would be greatly facilitated by your laws for organic vegan farming and campaigns or laws to make the much-needed lifestyle vegan change.”
