Are you consuming enough vitamin C rich fruits dear friends? Try a pineapple; 100 grams (3 ounces) gives you more vitamin C than a large orange! Today I’d like to offer a tip. When selecting a pineapple, pay attention to its color, aroma, shape, and texture. A naturally ripened pineapple typically has an even golden-yellow color from the base upward, gives off a sweet fragrance, and feels heavy for its size. Pineapples that are short, round, and plump often contain more flesh and less fiber than longer, narrow varieties. You can also examine the pineapple’s “eyes.” Large, shallow, and evenly spaced eyes are usually signs of a ripe and sweet fruit, while small, deep eyes may indicate the pineapple is underripe and more acidic. The leaves at the crown can offer clues as well: slightly yellow, softer leaves suggest ripeness, whereas shiny green leaves may mean the fruit still needs time to mature. Steer clear of pineapples with bruises, soft spots, or a fermented odor, as these can indicate spoilage. To keep a pineapple fresh longer, store it in a cool, dry location or refrigerate it after purchase.
