I have a useful coffee tip for you today. If your coffee tastes too bitter, did you know that a tiny pinch of salt may be all it takes to create a smoother, more balanced cup? Salt can help reduce the perception of bitterness on the tongue, allowing the coffee’s natural flavors and aromas to stand out more. This simple trick is especially useful for dark-roasted coffees, which tend to have a stronger, more bitter taste. Because salt helps mellow bitterness, some people find they need less sugar or vegan milk to enjoy their coffee, making it an easy way to cut back on added sweeteners without sacrificing flavor. The key, however, is to use only a very small amount. According to coffee experts, using approximately 0.15 grams of salt for every 100 grams of brewed coffee produced the best flavor balance in both espresso and filter coffee. A tiny pinch is usually all that’s needed to make a noticeable difference.
